THE WEEK THAT WAS AND THE WEEK THAT WILL
Last week our forecast of soaring weather was spot-on for once, which maybe proves what they say about that monkey with the typewriter. First we had two days of wave, and then Sunday afternoon blossomed with a foam of robust cumulus crowded so close it looked like you could have gone cross-country, though cloud base was only about 4000' AGL. (Realistically, folks at an ordinary soaring site would call such conditions first-rate, even in summer.)
This coming week will be a few degrees warmer and plenty mild, with lift mostly over the usual low hills. There's still new snow lingering on the highest mountaintops, so seize your opportunity to revel in the view.
ALSO; a couple weeks ago we solicited readers for info about speedy squads of little birds whizzing 'round out here in the desert – and it didn't take long for Rich Nauman to reply that they are Western Sandpipers migrating south from Alaska for the winter. Thanks for that, Rich! (Now duck, here they come again...)
