CURRENT SOARING FORECAST: OCT. 1-4, 2010
CURRENT SOARING FORECAST FOR SCSA (CRYSTALAIRE - 46CN) OCTOBER 1-4, 2010Last weeks soaring weather was interesting and very unusual. The LA basin and valleys were hotter by up to 20 degrees compared to our desert soaring area due to compressional heating. Combined with calm winds our usual convergence was reversed with the hotter LA basin air being lifted. Pilots towing up experienced what it would be like to tow aloft over Pasadena on a summer day. This week Great soaring conditions with good lift to 12,000 feet and above is predicted for the period. A very interesing weekend of weather is in store. Expect booming lift (with commensureate dreaded downdrafts). A lot of convection potential is in store due to the moisture spinning in from Mexico. T-storms and over-development may occur but are more likely to develop east over Big Bear area. Be on the lookout.
