IT IS WHAT IT IS, RIGHT?
Last week we trumpeted how rising temperatures would improve thermal conditions that have stayed consistently below average so far this season...Well we got the heat alright, but thickening smoke changed that narrative. Three different pilots got decent starts on cross-country soaring flights, but were forced down no more than 90 miles out by smoke and overdevelopment. (Sure enough, here at Crystalaire we had our usual island of better visibility, but surrounded by low smoke on all sides.)The coming week will be several degrees cooler, mostly cloudless and perhaps not so windy. As before, there will be plenty of lift each day, just not the GREAT stuff our wonderful site is known for...
