MIDSUMMER COOL

The recent period has been sunny of course, but marvelously cool for this time of year, a trend that will gradually reverse in the coming week.   Last Saturday (July 4th) brought fine local soaring at Crystal but fell something short of ideal for long cross-country flights.  Even so, Squadron pilots gave it their best, including Arnie Frankenberger's commendable first attempt.  Writeups from the four who embarked in two different routes show how challenging conditions can be more interesting and educational than the hero stuff.  See those stories on our SOARING IS LEARNING page, below.
