SOARING FORECAST APRIL 15-18, 2011
CURRENT SOARING FORECAST FOR SCSA (CRYSTALAIRE - 46CN) APRIL 15-18, 2011 LAST WEEKEND: We had stunning soaring weather last Friday considering the low temps the previous evening. While it was dreary and overcast in Los Angeles we on the other hand had clear skies with fat and flat bottom cu's, 8 knot thermals to 15,000 ft. and a cloud street disapearing over the horizon towards Las Vegas. Pity those several pilots who cancelled their flight reservations... A remarkable day was had by pilots towing aloft into deserted skies. THIS WEEKEND: It's going to be very warm and sunny through Sunday with temps in the 80's. A dry high pressure system has arrived and will remain through Sunday night. Not enough of a pressure gradient to create any offshore winds of note. Monday it will remain warm but a few degrees cooler as a gentle westerly flow returns. With light winds forecast throughout the period it looks like several days of good thermal activity ahead. Come on out and enjoy some fine soaring weather.
