SOARING FORECAST NOVEMBER 2-5, 2012

THIS WEEKEND:Sunny clear skies throughout this period. The cold front and clouds that arrived earlier this week will be quickly pushed out by dry offshore Santa Ana conditions Saturday and continuing through Tuesday. The wind forecast at our field will be gentle breezes for the period. Thermals should develop nicely along our local mountains with possibility for ridge lift and bow wave as the offshore conditions develop later this weekend. A low level inversion layer will persist but it's height is so low that most tows aloft will bust through and above this layer into more buoyant air above.NOTE: when the weather forecasters predict strong winds in the passes and LA basin they ARE NOT including our high desert area. Many people last week mistakenly cancelled their flight reservations due to winds forecast in the canyons. It was calm at the field with great soaring weather throughout that wind event.Dr. Jacks thermal velocity forecast for this period is in the 300 FPM range FRIDAY and SATURDAY. Height of Lift forecast is to apx. 10,000 over our San Gabriel mountains.  The National Weather Service is predicting the following local surface conditions for Saturday through Monday: FRIDAY:Sunny, Temperature: 73 degreesWind: Southwest 5-10 mph.SATURDAY:Sunny, Temperature: 76 degreesWind: Northeast 5-10 mph.SUNDAYSunny, Temperature: 79 degreesWind: Northeast 5-15 mph.MONDAY:Sunny, Temperature: 82 degreesWind: Northeast 5-10 mph.email weather comments to robert.settle@gmail.com
