CURRENT SOARING FORECAST MARCH 4-7, 2011
CURRENT SOARING FORECAST FOR SCSA (CRYSTALAIRE - 46CN) MARCH 4-7, 2011 LAST WEEKEND: We again had several days of wave. It's been a staple this season. The pre-frontal wave that the southerly wind produced Friday created "stacked" lenticulars directly over the field. We attempted to climb from 15,000 feet to the third layer of lenticulars but they appeared out of reach at approximately 25,000 feet. Several pilots successfullly navigated low-level rotor to connect with the wave above. Fun weekend. THIS WEEKEND: A big contrast compared to last week is in store. Temps will be a blissfull 10 degrees above normal Friday and Saturday with the arrival of a weak ridge of high pressure. Friday to Saturday expect top of boundary layer to be appx. 5,000 feet above ground at the field. Light winds are forecast. Our local mountains look to move the boundary layer up about a thousand feet or so if lucky . The first weak thermals of the season may make an appearance. Great soaring weather.Sunday and Monday our weather will change a bit with the departure of the high pressure ridge and return of pre-frontal westerlies. Look for some opportunities for local ridge soaring with the northwesterly breezes through Monday. The coast inland to the foothills will likely be under a cloud deck but expect it to be sunny and nice at the field.
