WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER

Every year as summer winds down, the approximate end of prime cross-country soaring season is marked by the Dust Devil Dash. It's an 'unofficial' contest open to anyone, and being handicapped, every contestant has a legitimate chance to win regardless what kind of glider they fly. Now that event is coming up again, Saturday, September 12 at Mountain Valley Airport (Skyark North) in Tehachapi. It's worth going early to enjoy breakfast wih the pilots prior to their pre-race meeting, and of course the start line is quite a spectacle with all those beautifully colored older birds mixed in with the uniformly white ones of modern vintage.
